2025 Fall Service Changes

Additional Information

Fall 2025 Service Changes Bring More Connections to Cary!

GoCary is excited to announce the launch of two new routes—Route 2 and Route 9—coming Fall 2025. These routes are designed to significantly expand access, improve mobility, and strengthen connections between Cary, Apex, and Raleigh. As part of our ongoing commitment to safe, reliable, and accessible public transportation, these additions will open new doors for travel to education, employment, shopping, and recreation.

Route 2 – Connecting Cary to Raleigh

Route 2 will provide a new connection between downtown Cary, NC State University, and the North Carolina State Fairgrounds—three major hubs for education, culture, and community life. The route will include 38 stops along key corridors such as North Harrison Avenue, Northeast Maynard Road, Chapel Hill Road, Corporate Center Drive, and Trinity Road.

This new service will enhance transit access for students and faculty commuting to and from NC State, residents of neighborhoods in both Cary and Raleigh, and commuters and event-goers traveling to popular destinations like the Lenovo Center, Carter–Finley Stadium, and Drive Shack. The route will also provide transit connections to the NC State Wolfline system and GoRaleigh Route 27L, further improving access across the region.

Route 9 – Expanding Local Service Between Cary and Apex

Route 9 transforms the current Apex–Cary Express (ACX) into a local service route with 34 stops between downtown Cary and downtown Apex. Traveling along High House Road, Old Apex Road, and North Salem Street, Route 9 will offer frequent service to neighborhoods, schools, businesses, and shopping centers.

It will also connect directly with GoApex Route 1 and GoTriangle Route 305, expanding travel options throughout the Town of Apex and improving access to major shopping centers, public facilities, and more.

Service Hours and Frequency

Both Route 2 and Route 9 will operate with the same schedule as other GoCary routes, offering convenient and consistent service seven days a week:

Route 1 – Realignment for Better Access to Crossroads

Starting Fall 2025, GoCary is updating Route 1 – Crossroads to better serve the growing Crossroads area and improve regional connections.

As part of this change, three new bus stops will be added along Crossroads Boulevard, and one new stop will be added on Jones Franklin Road near the Sheetz gas station. Route 1 will also begin sharing stops with GoTriangle Route 305 along Dillard Drive to increase convenience and service options.

To support this improvement, three inbound stops along Dillard Drive will be removed:

  • Dillard Dr at Walnut St (ID: 1313)
  • Dillard Dr at Columbus Ave (ID: 1292)
  • Dillard Dr at Jones Franklin Rd (ID: 1274)

This portion of Dillard Drive will no longer be served by Route 1.

These changes will make it easier for riders to reach shopping, jobs, and connections to other transit routes in the area.

Accessibility and Infrastructure Enhancements

To ensure a comfortable and accessible experience for all, the new and upgraded stops for Routes 2 and 9 will be constructed to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility standards and include lighting where feasible. Additionally, 38 existing bus stops systemwide will be upgraded with new concrete pads.

As part of our commitment to pedestrian safety, new infrastructure improvements are also underway including a new crosswalk with pedestrian signals at Walnut Street and Donaldson Drive.

Construction began in May 2025 and is expected to take approximately ten months to complete. We will continue to keep the community informed throughout the process.
